What's actually thinning your edges
It's usually the tension, the schedule, or both.
Edge control gets blamed first because it's the last thing touching the hairline before the damage shows. In most cases we see, the real cause is repeated tight styling with no recovery week in between — the follicle never gets a break to reset. Our rule: after any style that pulled at the hairline, give it 5–7 days before the next tight install, and keep the actual edge hair moisturised, not just styled. If it's been thinning for months rather than weeks, that's a scalp-condition conversation, not a product one — bring it into a consultation instead of trying a fourth "edge miracle" serum.

How long your cornrows should actually last
There's a real answer, and it depends on the count — not the price.
Wear time on plain cornrows is set by cornrow size, not hair length or how "well" they were done. Jumbo (2–4 rows) is roughly a week before they've loosened past the point of looking neat. Large (6–8) stretches to 1–2 weeks. Medium (9–15) holds 2–3 weeks. Small (16–25) can go 3–4 weeks. Mini (26–40) can be pushed to 6 weeks for the right hair type, but that's the ceiling, not the target — past that you're trading style life for scalp tension. If you're consistently getting less wear time than this, the install technique is worth revisiting at your next appointment.

The wash routine we'd recommend even if we sold nothing
A nutritionist's version of "wash day" looks different from an influencer's.
A proper wash isn't about how much product went on — it's about whether the scalp itself got attention, since that's the tissue actually producing new growth. Our baseline: cleanse the scalp directly (not just the lengths), rinse until the water runs clear, condition mid-shaft to ends only, and finish with a leave-in suited to your current scalp condition rather than a generic "for curly hair" label. If you're washing weekly and still seeing buildup or itch by day four, that's usually a product-layering issue, not a washing-frequency one — worth bringing up at your next visit instead of just washing more often.
